Description:
We often assume that because the US and China are so politically different, they must then be sociologically different. Their societies and values are, however, strikingly similar in comparative perspective. This talk will unpack this statement, paying careful attention to the ways that cultural, structural, and ideological factors interact to produce the phenomena we observe: two boisterous, ambitious, entrepreneurial societies who see themselves as competing opposites.
