Abstract
Population ageing has become a global governance challenge, reflected in international initiatives such as the WHO’s Decade of Healthy Ageing. Yet the translation of these global agendas into local practice is shaped by national priorities, political institutions, and social contexts. This topic examines how healthy ageing policies are interpreted and implemented in China. It explores the roles of the central and local Party-states, private sectors, health and social care providers, and elder communities in shaping ageing governance, while highlighting tensions between global policy norms and local realities.
