Speaker’s Bio:
Shu Zhan is a senior research fellow and Director of African Studies Center at China Foundation for International Studies. Prior to this, he was a senior research fellow at the Institute of African Studies in Zhejiang Normal University (2013-2018).
He started research on Africa in 1977 at the Institute of West Asian & African Studies (IWAAS), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing for 19 years, and then served as a diplomat in five African countries for seventeen years, culminating with posts as China’s ambassador to Eritrea and Rwanda.
He studied as post-graduate at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences and University of Durham, UK. He had been to at University of Zimbabwe (1984), George Mason University (USA, 1991) and Witwatersrand University (SA, 1994) as a visiting scholar.
